Treatment For At-Risk Teens
Treatment provided to a teen for attempted suicide is generally considered and decided by the teenager's physician. Factors that help decide the course of treatment that will be provided include, but are not limited to:
-age, health, and medical records
-the extent to which the symptoms occur
-the seriousness of the attempt
-the teenager's tolerance for certain therapies and specific medications
-the expectations that occur regarding future suicide attempts
-the parent's preference for treatment and course of action
All of these course of actions can be applied to aiding a teen when discussing the course of treatment that should be provided. According to the Virgina Health System, "any adolescent who has attempted suicide requires an initial physical evaluation and treatment until he/she is physically stable" (HS Teen Suicide).
